FAQ
Frequently Asked QuestionsAbout Criminal Defense in Seattle
Does a DUI affect my driver's license?
Yes, your license will be suspended by the Department of Licensing if you get arrested for a DUI, but you have a small window where you can challenge that in order to try to keep that from happening.
Will a DUI/criminal charge stay on my record?
If convicted, a criminal charge will stay on your record. Depending on the charge, there are important timelines you need to address and with certain, but not all, charges you can work to get them removed.
Can I avoid jail time for a criminal charge?
Yes. While all criminal charges come with the possibility of jail, not all do. And even for those which “require” jail time you still have options to potentially serve that “jail time” on an ankle monitor if you take appropriate steps.
What do I do if I have a warrant?
You need to speak with an attorney immediately and have them help you get your warrant quashed and get back into court to address the case so that you are not at risk of being arrested.
I was served with a protection or domestic violence order, what do I do?
You need to abide by whatever conditions are set out in the order of the court, generally not contact with the other party and do not go within 1000 feet of their home or work. Additionally, you should speak with an attorney about possibly responding to the petition, seeking your own, or attempting to work out a compromise.
